To Do.

Thursday, July 10th, 2008

I’m pretty sad I never knew about this before, but ecstatic to have discovered it now at least. About 1 year ago, Brooklyn Art Project member Illegal Art used 6,272 Post-It notes to cover the windows of 100 Washington St. in Dumbo, Brooklyn. Using yellow and pink, the artist spelled out “TO DO,” encouraging passersby to write their to-do on a Post-It. The project also took place at several other locations over the span of a year previous to this.

In their explanation:
“From the refrigerator to the computer screen, from the purse to the bedroom door, to- do lists, commands, reminders, mantras and more have graced these tiny 3×3 inch squares all over the globe.”

It’s beautiful.

What would you write on your Post-It?

Ghost Clown – Wandering

I can’t seem to drop my current affinity for text-based graphic art designs. They just say so much.

Like this from Ghost Clown:

Living in a city like New York, it’s oh so perfect.

Phosphorescent and Bowerbirds at Mercury Lounge 2/29/08

Tuesday, March 11th, 2008

It’s been a week and a half now since this show, but I’ve now finally gotten the images from the show posted. We skipped the first two bands at Mercury Lounge on Leap Day evening, February 29th since we had no idea who they were. Luckily, we got there just in time to nudge our way into a prime spot up front just as Phosphorescent started setting up. The boys hadn’t heard them beforehand, but I was psyched to see them. As well, I was just as or even more psyched to see Bowerbirds since I’d been listening to their album Hymns for a Dark Horse on repeat for the last 2-3 weeks. Phosphorescent played more songs than expected since the audience was loving them, and I think as a consequence Bowerbirds actually played a (great, but) pretty darn short set. When they finished, they made it pretty obvious they were done and the lights flipped on, no one expecting any encores or demanding them. Lucky for us, they played all the songs that get stuck in your head the easiest. Short, yet satisfying.

Click on the pictures to see the full album of photos from the show, including me wearing the weird, lens-lacking, supernerd, almost-hipster glasses in between bands.

Fast Times at Fat Cat

Sunday, February 24th, 2008

Saturday night, the roomies and I (minus Alex, but including Chris Z, the long-term temporary couch-crashing roommate) went to check out a place called Fat Cat in the West Village/Greenwich Village area. They have amazing live jazz every night until closing, but as we found out, on a weekend night, you better get there pretty early (think 7-8pm) to get a seat on one of the couches to listen. In addition though, they have far too many other activities to keep you busy – pool, ping pong, scrabble, foosball, shuffleboard, chess, you name it. The place was packed – with NYU undergrads because of the location… – but pretty fun and engaging. Towards the end of the evening, I hunkered down with my camera and just took some fun action shots of the boys playing ping pong.

Click ‘em to see the entire album as always.
