The Moustache Chronicles

Sunday, March 2nd, 2008

So February was beard month in my apartment – not for me, but for the 3 boys I live with at least. Unfortunately, Tom doesn’t have the capacity to truly grow a full-on beard like the other hairy fellas in the place. So after a few days, he gave up and went for a moustache instead. Comedy ensued. The ceremonial shaving of the moustache had to be documented with a portrait project and I’ve started to assemble a few montages of the pictures I took. Full album to come, but for now, see the few that are done and up on Flickr right now. Click the image to check ‘em out.

Fast Times at Fat Cat

Sunday, February 24th, 2008

Saturday night, the roomies and I (minus Alex, but including Chris Z, the long-term temporary couch-crashing roommate) went to check out a place called Fat Cat in the West Village/Greenwich Village area. They have amazing live jazz every night until closing, but as we found out, on a weekend night, you better get there pretty early (think 7-8pm) to get a seat on one of the couches to listen. In addition though, they have far too many other activities to keep you busy – pool, ping pong, scrabble, foosball, shuffleboard, chess, you name it. The place was packed – with NYU undergrads because of the location… – but pretty fun and engaging. Towards the end of the evening, I hunkered down with my camera and just took some fun action shots of the boys playing ping pong.

My Next Art Project

Tuesday, February 19th, 2008

So after Marc and I finished our photowalk on Saturday, he hung around the apartment for a bit and we wound up playing around with some of the vintage cameras I’ve begun collecting in the past few months. We noticed some fun reflections going on and snapped a few quick shots and now I’m itching to do an entire photo series on images like these:

Photowalk #2

Tuesday, February 19th, 2008

Marc and I finally went on our second (obviously not weekly) photowalk on Saturday. This time we went straight for food at Fabiane’s and then just decided to stay local, wandering around the fringes of Williamsburg, first as close to the water as we could get, then south, then east. Then I found a big wooden mirror and threw it over my back (OK, Marc carried it for most of the trip back) to take home and turn into an art project (I’ve had a can of neon pink spraypaint just itching to be used on my bookshelf for months now) so we were forced to head back to my apartment.

It was a gorgeous day out and my ‘burg is full of fun graffiti. Here are some of the images, but as always, click on any one of them for the full album.

A Birthday Poem

Thursday, January 24th, 2008

This “poem” brought to you by Mr. Chris Zawadzki:

23 years ago, Kelly emerged from Vaginaland
Kicking and screaming, like she was in a fetal band

In her younger days, she hit balls and played with oars,
Wrote messages on dollar bills and made fun of whores

Now, she says things like OMG, ROFLMAO and For Realz,
Has JD blackouts and loves bento box meals

In 23 years, Kelly will be writing copy or taking photos
Or fronting a band called The Galapagogos

Whatever she may do, or whoever she may be
She is already a kick-ass chick at 23.

Happy Birthday KID!
