Ever since I unknowingly came across it in Chicago several years ago, You Are Beautiful has continued to be one of my favorite art project of all time. And I believe it always will be. You can’t deny something with such a beautiful, positive message. Here, another sighting:

A You Are Beautiful Sighting
Monday, September 22nd, 2008Earth Cinema Circle Film Collection
Friday, September 19th, 2008
Earth Cinema Circle Film Collection is likeNetFlix, but environmentally-charged. I first heard about the company through an article on Lime.com and I think it’s one of the greatest ideas ever. Much like the online video rental company that has caused conventional video stores to go bankrupt or close to it, this company charges a fee to have quality DVDs delivered to your door. In this specific case though, the fee is $17.95 plus $4.95 shipping every other month and for this you receive one DVD which has 4 or 5 feature-length and short films that feature a range of environmentally-themed topics such as global warming, saving the planet’s natural treasures, wildlife, ecosystems, green living, alternative building techniques, sustainable architecture, and solar power from great independent filmmakers.

Each video volume is introduced by Ed Begley, Jr. – actor, co-star of HGTV‘s Living With Ed, and longtime environmental activist (in many incredible ways that include using bicycle power around the house!). The company is endorsed by The Conservation Fund. The packaging the DVDs are sent in is 100% recycled and they use carbon-neutral shipping. The film collection is also a Gaiam Company – a social networking company focused on inspiring.

Quoted from the website:
“The filmmakers whose work we feature on Earth Cinema Circle hope their films inspire people to get involved in the topics they have covered. One of our goals is to make it easy for you to do just that.”
A potentially great Christmas gift? I think so.
Van Leeuwen Organic Ice Cream Truck
Thursday, September 18th, 2008A couple weeks ago I decided to finally try some of the expensive organic ice cream from the truck parked outside the building where I work. As I ordered and waited for my $3.95 large scoop of espresso ice cream delicious-ness, I noticed a guy inside filming another guy talking about the ice cream. Now that video is up HERE on New York Magazine‘s website. Yummmmmmm.
Thakoon for Target
Wednesday, September 17th, 2008I have to finally admit this openly: I am so ridiculously excited that Thakoon was pegged as the next designer for Target’s Go Collection. I try not to get too ridiculously wrapped up in the fashion obsession that I could potentially develop, but oh man, when I saw his Fall ’08 show back in the spring, I fell in love. First of all he is adorable:

I saw Anna Wintour for the first time at his show (almost bumped into her backstage actually when she was talking to Thakoon), he is eco-friendly – known to be seen sipping out of Sigg reusable water bottles and used environmentally-friendly hair products for the show, and every single design was ephemerally beautiful. I’m just crossing my fingers his designs will look anything like the designs I saw that day.

And not like the Spring/Summer Ready-to-Wear 2009 collection that just showed this past week…. Not a fan.
Geren Ford Spring 2009 Presentation
Thursday, September 4th, 2008Last night I attended the presentation of Geren Ford‘s Spring 2009 collection for New York Fashion Week, covering model Laura (aka. Texas) backstage for all of her prep and then briefly checking out the actual presentation before dashing out. An edited batch of the photos will be posted on New York Fashion Week, covering model Laura (aka. Texas) backstage for all of her prep and then briefly checking out the actual presentation before dashing out. An edited batch of the photos will be posted on NYLONmag.com sometime today, but be sure to check out the full un-edited set on my flickr account for lots of pretty photos like these:
