Etsy Find: ES Designs

Monday, March 31st, 2008

I’m thinking of making this a weekly feature since I love Etsy so much. For those that don’t know about, it’s an online marketplace where people can sell their handmade objects - from jewelry to photography, clothing to notecards. Some items are vintage recreations/finds while others are entirely handmade and original, beautiful pieces of art.

Yesterday I decided I wanted to start wearing more rings and went on Etsy to find some pretty things to quench my thirst. I went through pages upon pages of the most recently added items in the rings section of jewelry and finally decided to just add a whole batch of sellers to my favorites and come back to it another day, when I wasn’t loving every single thing I saw.

The one store whose designs I fell head-over-heels for though, was that ofJewelery by Elizabeth Scott. She works mainly in sterling silver to create simple designs inspired by nature. All of her pieces are fairly simple in shape and design, with hammered out textures and botanical shapes.

Some of my favorites:

“Shoreline Ring” - looks like it was pulled right from the beach, made to look like “sand and reflections in water.”

“Linen Necklace” - textured with a legitimate linen pattern, very simple but I love it.

“Birch Bark Ring” - which was actually textured with birch bark for an extremely earthy and natural design.

“Ginkgo Leaf Earrings” - I didn’t even know what Ginkgo looked like aside from the pill form and it’s great for these earrings, as well as the several rings she made from one leaf each.

“Petal Necklace” - modeled after a hydrangea petal.

These are just a few of the adorable, affordable, earthy designs made by Elizabeth Scott for sale in her Etsy store. After revisiting it, I’m about to give in and buy the birch bark ring I think…

So what does everyone think about the idea of starting a weekly “Etsy Find” post?

I WANT This Necklace.

So it’s pretty convoluted how I came about the VANE online store, but now that I’ve seen it, I’m determined to get this amazing camera necklace - although I haven’t decided yet if I like the antique gold or gun metal best. Maybe if I suddenly come into a nice new chunk of income next week, I’ll buy both of them as a congratulations gift to myself. Or someone can claim to be my secret admirer and buy it for me. Or you can all donate a few dollars each to the “Kelly Really Likes That Camera Necklace and Deserves to Have It” fund I’ll start soon because there are no holidays coming up in the near future.

Too far?

Anyway, this necklace is adorable, and so are a lot of the other things they have on their website. I may have to check out one of their store locations. Thanks to VANE for leaving a comment on NYLON Magazine’s MySpace page.

This Week’s Round-Up of Images I Made For NYLON

Here’s one big ol’ roundup of the graphics I’ve made for NYLON this week (plus the one from my previous post, which I also photographed).

Update: The NYLON Graphic I Made To Go With My Chelsea Rebelle Photographs

I just wrote earlier today about the Chelsea Rebelle lookbook I photographed for NYLON in my post “Chelsea Rebelle Lookbook Photographed for NYLON Magazine” and now the graphic I made yesterday is also live on the website.

Chelsea Rebelle Lookbook Photographed for NYLON Magazine

Wednesday, March 26th, 2008

We recently got a cute lookbook in at NYLON for the new Chelsea Rebelle line and I got to photograph it for the website. Since the photos were each printed separately as if they were postcards from the 1940’s (complete with postage stamps and wrapped in a brown paper envelope wrapped in twine), we decided it would be a good idea to set them up strewn about a bit like we’d just opened the prized package. We have a great loft office to photograph things in, so I just took them over to a naturally well-lit corner set up the scene.

Here are some of the photos that resulted. Click any of them to see the full album.
